Day-by-Day Itinerary
Arusha → Tarangire National Park
Main Activities: Game drive
Description: Pick up from Arusha in the morning and drive straight to Tarangire National Park. Known for its huge baobab trees and large herds of elephants, the park is home to lions, leopards, giraffes, and zebras along the Tarangire River. Spend the day driving through the park watching wildlife gather around the water sources before heading to your lodge for dinner and a rest.
Tarangire Area → Lake Manyara National Park → Karatu
Main Activities:Morning game drive in Manyara, transfer to Karatu
Description: Drive to nearby Lake Manyara National Park, a lush, green groundwater forest contrasting sharply with Tarangire's dry savannah. Keep an eye out for noisy baboon troops, bright pink flamingos along the alkaline lake, and the park’s legendary tree-climbing lions. In the late afternoon, drive up the steep escarpment of the Great Rift Valley to the farming town of Karatu for the night.
Karatu → Central Serengeti National Park
Main Activities:Transit drive through Ngorongoro, afternoon game drive
Description: Leave the highlands behind and travel through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, stopping at the crater viewpoint before dropping down onto the endless plains of the Serengeti. Once you enter the park at Naabi Hill, the game drive begins immediately. Spend the afternoon tracking big cats around the central Seronera valley before arriving at your camp.
Central Serengeti National Park
Main Activities: Full-day game drive
Description: Dedicate a full day to exploring the heart of the Serengeti, pacing the game drive exactly how you prefer since you have a private vehicle. Your guide will take you along the river networks and granite kopjes to find resident lions, elusive leopards, and cheetahs scanning the plains for prey. Eat a packed lunch out in the wild so you don’t have to rush back to camp.
Serengeti National Park (Tracking the Herds)
Main Activities:Full-day game drive focusing on migration and predator action
Description: Spend another full day in the Serengeti, this time venturing further out to follow the seasonal movements of the wildebeest and zebra herds. Whether driving toward the western corridor or the northern plains, the goal is to witness the sheer scale of the migration and the intense predator action that follows it. Return to camp in the evening to share stories around the fire.
Central Serengeti → Ngorongoro Crater Rim
Main Activities:Morning Serengeti game drive, transfer to Crater Rim
Description: Wake up early for a final sunrise game drive in the Serengeti to catch predators while they are most active. After a late breakfast, pack your bags and begin a slow, scenic drive back into the Ngorongoro Highlands. Arrive at your lodge on the crater rim by late afternoon to enjoy the sweeping views and acclimatize to the cooler mountain air.
Ngorongoro Crater → Karatu
Main Activities:Morning crater floor game drive, transfer to Karatu
Description: Drive down the steep crater walls at first light to beat the crowds to the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater. Spend the morning in this incredible natural bowl searching for endangered black rhinos, large elephant bulls, and dense prides of lions. After a picnic lunch near a hippo pool, drive back up the crater wall and head to your lodge in Karatu to relax.
Karatu → Arusha
Main Activities:Morning relaxation, transfer to Arusha
Description: Enjoy a slow morning with a hot breakfast and perhaps a short walk through the lodge’s coffee plantations or local farm trails. Afterward, load up the private safari vehicle one last time and enjoy a comfortable drive back to Arusha. Your guide will drop you off at your hotel or the airport, bringing your Tanzania adventure to an end.
